Today in the 1:00 speedball.....

1. My partner was disconnected (bad satellite connection due to weather) right before the last hand. A sub came in to sit in his spot. We were not able to finish the last hand, and were awarded an average minus. We still managed to win a first in our section. HOWEVER, the sub received the .88 masterpoint award rather than my partner. (I checked the masterpoint history information out of curiosity, since the sub and I were listed as the section winners). How can that be?

2. The last hand was unfinished because, low and behold, I was now disconnected at the 2 minute mark. I understand that the opponents were not at fault here. BUT the opponents did not bid a 4 heart game that most of the field did bid (and the field either made 4 or 5 hearts). Yet, the opponents were given an average plus for that hand (we were given an average minus). This cannot be right either, can it?

The director of the tournament was online, and after sending him a message with my concerns about the last hand of the above mentioned tournament, he corrected the situation. He adjusted the last hand to 3 hearts making 5 and he indicated he sent in a directive to give my partner the masterpoint award he earned.
I am impressed with this director's prompt action.
I do like those speedballs....
