ps-2NT-3-??

Context 1: RHO is imaginative player.

Context 2: There is a lot of laughs around the table, because the previous board RHO opened 2NT and you overcalled 3 (on junk), opponents making 450 anyway.

X.

Neg, but if you play it as penalty that
is fine as well.
If I got the vul. right, they are red vs. green,
so if he though it is payback time, he may
have been wrong ...

3D would just be competitive (?!), I would
need to check with my partner, but even
if not, I will loose the heart suit.

With kind regards

3.

3 is not competitive after a 2NT opening and an overcall. It is natural and game forcing. I am not designing a bidding system that caters to a super weak hand with a long suit over opponents interference after a 2NT opening.

I expect partner to bid naturally, which means a 4 card major. 3 does not deny a 4 card major.

Worst case - we will get to 3NT when we should be in 4. But I am not committing this hand to defense. Besides, RHO may pull 3x to 3. Now, when you pass, it is far from clear partner will make the right decision. He will be endplayed into bidding 3NT or doubling.

I'd discuss this one with your partner. In all my partnerships we would play system on over a 3 overcall. Ergo, 3 is Jacoby.

So I'd say the worst case is that you play 4 opposite some weird 4-3 with the long hand getting tapped.

I will double 3. Don't we play 'stolen bids'? :P

If you are playing systems on over 3, then it makes sense that double is Stayman.

I certainly play that when the opps overcall 2 natural over 1NT.

why?

Prefer double of natural 2clubs as penalty, cuebid for stayman.

Why? Because it lets you bid your hand in the manner that you would have done but for the interference. And the number of times that you will get a better result by doubling a natural 2 overcall for penalties is extremely small.

Besides, your partner knows your methods. If you have a penalty double of 2 you pass and your partner should reopen.

But it probably makes more sense to just bid 3NT when you have a penalty double of 2.

If dbl is stayman, bid that.

If dbl is pen, bid 3.

If dbl is undiscussed, bid 3.

Same here with those partners with whom I play systems on over all interference and stolen bid X. I would X as stayman. And, of course, :P I assumed one of those partners when I answered this poll.
