MBC, you're a good player vs. semi-noobs, partner deals and passes and RHO opens 1♦. You play reasonable openers (some 11's, 95% 12's).

some vulnerability would be nice, but:

I would bid 1H unless w/r (where I would bid 4H). 4H w/r is certainly a gamble, but one I'm willing to take vs semi-noobs. Bidding 1H w/r would be fine though. I don't understand any number but 1 or 4 though, at any vul.

I agree that the choice is 1 or 4. Very sound for a white 4 Heart bid, very weak for a red 4 Heart bid, but okay.

Hi,

For me it would be either 1H or 3H,
but this is mainly a matter of tactical
considerations, ... and maybe 4H is
better than 3H, but 4H is fairly commiting.

1♥ for sure, 2 and 3 is not alternatives IMO.
w/r I might try 4♥, but 1♥ is still very reasonable.

All vul vs semi-noobs. I don't see the need to risk 4♥ nor the need to try to preempt weak players. I'll start with 1♥. My hand is, for me, too good for 2 or 3♥ which I certainly play as preemptive.
