So hear we see E and N pass and W begins with 1NT 14-16. You choose pass as does E but partner comes to life with 2S. Your methods are 2S is natural and may or may not be 2 suited in this position. When the initial NT bidder advances now with 3C what action would you think is best if any?

If playing adjective bridge, I have an easy responsive double. Playing normal bridge, I have an easy pass, and I am happy partner balanced. 3♣ may mak,e but if it does, so did 1N, and 3♣ rates to be worse than 1N. I just hope partner has a high spade.

At mps, I guess I'd double, but not at imps. I think they are probably going down, but not by sufficent margin as to warrant a double.

Bidding problems are interesting when the order of the calls is backwards

Assuming it started:

East....South....West....North
Pass...Pass...1N...Pass
Pass.....2♠...3♣...?

I would pass. Double is penalty. If we are making 3♠, we are beating 3♣.

If we are making 3S, don't we have to double 3C at this vulnerability to be able to win any IMP's (Unless it goes -3 or more)? Even if we are only making 2S, we're still losing a couple of IMP's if 3C is only -1, but X would push (or win, if -2) the board.

Or are you just treating this as a risk vs. reward scenario? Where the gain from doubling may not offset the risk of it making?

I think we beat 3C by two tricks, so I double and lead a trump. What the heck, they've made doubled contracts before.

Should double here be prue penalty? I am not so sure about that at all. And lets face it, if partner held a hand that was not very defensive he'll pull. Double should be action I think, after all you did not dble 1NT, don't we need to let parnter know we have not just any hand, but a good one even though he bid these values.

Just so you know, 5D is an excellent contract and we are selling out to 3C which happens to make.
