Just to bring some "play" into bidding (we have been seeing too many bidding problems lately :P ) and for fun...

Have you (or someone else...) ever made a bid, thinking about a squeeze which would push the chances of making the contract up? Did the squeeze materialize? Can you please post the hand here?

Since I'm lucky to be able to execute a squeeze when it occurs, I obviously haven't bid with it in mind. But you occasionally see experts bidding thin slams in tournaments, and the explanation given by commentators (in Vugraph or magazine articles) is that because of their extra length somewhere, they expected it to be on either a finesse or a squeeze.

It doesn't happen very often. I can't recall picturing a squeeze, because not only do you have to place pard with very specific cards, but the opponents have to cooperate as well.

I have bid a slam knowing I can't count to 12 or 13 tricks, but realizing that squeeze possibilities exist that boost the %'s up high enough to take a shot.

I do recall being able to break up a squeeze as a defender on the opening lead, although I don't recall the exact hand.

It sometimes happens in relay bidding.

In fact, I once detected a club slam on the 3-3 fit(!!) via relays.. lol.

Not a squeeze but I planned a dummy reversal during the auction once (relays...)

Did your relays give you enough information to predict the trump lead?

I think it's not unusual to picture a squeeze as one of the chances, like knowing a hand may potentially need either of two 3-3 breaks 'or' a squeeze in those suits.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Thinking about a possible squeeze? I typically claim before the opening lead on automatic double squeezes telling LHO that I make unless he has at least 4 spades and 4 hearts.

Maybe.

They led a spade and it made :)

j/k. In fact, it was a bidding challenge hand. Opps never got a chance to lead.. lol.

I am curious. Can I claim, before the lead is tabled?

Can someone enlighten me on the laws in this respect.

Yes, absolutely. For instance I'll widen my no trump opening range from 15-17 to 13-18 if I have the 7 just to increase the chances of being declarer.

Sure, correcting partner's 2N back to diamonds when I have the 7.

Maybe no, but I showed my hand to LHO who shuffled his cards and put them on the *I don't remember the name of the thing wich holds cards*, of course it was 7NT, and dummy had shown the aces and queen missing in my hand.

Sometimes, when I bid, I can foresee partner squeezing my head between their hands. Does that count?

:)
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

Lol, I often also think, what will those forum posters vote when I put this hand as a poll. It helps me bidding more sane (not always).

lol...

If you pictured partner squeezing your head _before_ you made the bid, then yes it counts :P
