match points, good field (New Zealand Pairs final)

What do you lead from

 Jxxxx
 xxx
 xx
 K9x

after

1 2
2 2NT*
3 3*
4* 4*
5 6

2nt=artificial GF
3=cue, 4=cue,4=RKCB

In practice a trump was lead and 13 tricks resulted.

Problem was that I had only said "cue" when in fact we cue first or second round controls. Leaders partner had the spade Ace and the result was adjusted back to 12 tricks. Sure, I should have given a more complete explanation, but is a spade lead that much more clear when the cues might only be seconds? Why lead a trump? Why not a black suit anyway? Why not ask for clarification when many in the field would have been playing this style of cues?

Anyway not a big deal, it just seems that our opp made a lazy lead and got a trick back on almost a technicality, certainly in future i will be more careful about my explanations!
With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same may mean for some men to do as they please...with the product of other men's labor.

The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep's throat for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as a liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act as the destroyer of of liberty.

I can't comment on the ruling. There are smarter folks here that can.

What we tend to do 'round here is post the hand as a lead problem. Then you'll get unbiased opinions on what posters would do. Only then should you reveal what happened at the table.

A spade lead wouldn't occur to me since pard had TWO chances to double the cue and the key card ask.

I would have led a club.

Cue does NOT explicitely mean first round control. I think it is so obvious that a cuebid could (at least potentially) refer to a second round control that anyone who called the director in this situation is either new to the game, supremely greedy, has lived in a cave their whole life, or is a complete idiot.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Or all of the above? :)

Agree with Josh, it's ridiculous to call the TD for this... TD should give the player a procedural penalty for wasting his time :)

I'd routinely lead a club.
I'd never even think about calling for TD here.
If I were called as TD I'd rule result stand any day of the week and have a few words with your opponents.
Kind regards,
Harald

I'm very surprised by the lead after RHO said he has the A. Isn't there a big risk to give away a trick by the lead (LHO or RHO having the Q)?
I would a lead a through LHO's cue. Should CHO DBL 3 or 4 with A?
