Sadly, Tim Seres died today, Sep 29.

Tim was one of the all time great bridge players the world has ever seen. One of my great joys was taking off from work early on a Friday to kibitz his rubber bridge game.

This is very sad. I have played against Tim many times. He was a gentleman at the table as well as being one of the best players against whom I have had the pleasure to play.

South leads the [sp]6 to the ace and ruffs a low spade in hand and west is backwash-squeezed. If west throws from one minor suit south leads two round of this suit. West might ruff, but is then endplayed. If west elect to underruff the spade, south plays two rounds of one minor, againd endplaying west.

Rather than mourn his passing I wonder if we should be better to rejoice his life. We all go eventually, and if I were to get to his age and earn a measurable proportion of the level of respect that he earned (and that ain't gonna happen), then I would count myself as having a good innings.

I think someone told me that the seres squeeze is the only squeeze where you need absolutely no communication between the hands. Is that right?

It's pretty sad that Seres is gone. There will certainly be no more rubber bridge in Australia anymore.

A very common one: the strip squeeze, has often only 2 players involved, one attacker and one defender, so no comunication needed with a player who doesn't even contribute.
