How do you like this hand:

Scoring: IMP

LHO opens 1NT and partner bids 3S, LHO passes. Your call.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

3S at favorable in my partnerships can be real crap, so I will pass and not hang partner. If we miss game, next hand.

I liked the hand before the bidding started...

I don't rate partner's chances in 4 here as good, so raising is out for me.
The alternatives are pass and 4. I do love those game bonuses at IMP's so I'll have a try at 4. If partner is 2-1 in my suit's I need them to be divided 3-2 and 3-3. Not that great a game. But I'll give it a shot. Even 3 might go down too. B)
Kind regards,
Harald

Gotta bid 4H, we need 2 little hearts and a zero count to make it.

I bid 4S and got lucky, partner had AQxxxxx x xxxx xx and 4S was the only making game.

If they lead a diamond I don't see how we can come close to making 4S. We ruff, play off 3 rounds of clubs pitching a diamond, they ruff and run 2 more diamonds and we have lost 3 tricks without even tackling the trump suit.

4H also looks much better than 4S opposite that hand (5C is not possible to get to so...).

I think bidding 4S here is a huge mistake, our hand does not play well for spades. I am very confident that if someone did a simulation on this it would confirm that 4H is miles ahead of 4S.

They never give me those hands!

I'd bid 4 after finding it has to be natural.

I think 4S may be hard to make because I gave a hand with 14 cards. The actual hand had a heart void.

I think you are right in that 4H will make much more often than 4S.

I have not run a simulation, and have trouble figuring out the constraints for 3... I personally would rarely hold the hand that Hannie's partner had (even if it was changed to be only 13 cards.... was partner 7=1=3=2 or?) I'd have chunkier spades: KQ1098xx or KQJxxxx... I'm not criticizing the 3 call at the table... just explaining why I didn't do a simulation.

But I am with the 4 bidders, and don't think it is close.

Well, the 3 was over a 1NT opener, after all... it's not supposed to be on a trash suit
