Hi,

we play a system similar to 2/1, but with only
very few gadgets.
The partnership plays fairly sound opening bids
in all seats.

Today the following seq. came up:

1D - (pass) - 1H - (2C)
X (1) - (pass) - 2S (2) - ...

(1) SuppX
(2) ???

Does your interpreation of the 2S bid changes,
if partner is a passed hand?

Thanks for your input.

With kind regards
Marlowe

Natural and forcing.
If partner was a passed hand, natural and not forcing.

Opener has done nothing to deny 4 spades. Responder has done nothing to deny 4 spades. Why shouldn't responder look for a 4-4 spade fit if he has the points?

We agree, although I certainly cannot claim to be an expert on sup X sequences.

Yes, this is forcing. With a weak hand, responder must bid 2 or 2, so we may miss the fit if opener is not strong enough to bid again.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
