Scoring: IMP

P - (3♥) - Dbl - (4♥)
P - (P) - Dbl - (P)
?

Is this one clearcut?

On the bidding I'd expect not_so_good breaks. So I don't think we can safely asume we're making anything higher than 4♥. So I'll go for a set and pass. +300 vs +400/420 isn't a bad result at IMPs either.
Kind regards,
Harald

Partner wants me to bid and I'm just going to blunder on into 4S.

Partner doesn't want you to do anything in particular. He is simply showing a very good takeout double of hearts. He wants you to do whatever is right opposite that sort of hand. If you think it is 4♠ then ok, but I can't agree with bidding on the basis that partner wants you to bid.

I prefer pass for sure. Sometimes it's wrong, but it avoids the risk that game goes down on bad breaks, or that partner is 3145 or something. I would like my hand much better for offense if the heart ace was in another suit, I would probably bid if it was in spades.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Would those who pass, still pass without the Ace of hearts? If you are confident partner has this contract off in his own hand, and your ace is the -300 card, then I can understand a pass at this vulnerability.

I don´t believe in a 3145 hand from pd, I believe in 4 Spades. This makes 4 ♠ a better bet but still pass is tempting.
