12 board match - very good opponents.

All white.

LHO opens 1, pard passes and RHO bids 1N. You look at:

4H. 2H is reasonable, 3h is an underbid.

I'd bid 2, the auction probably won't finish here...

2.

If partrner bids 2/3/4NT, I'll bid 4/4/5.

I kind of like 2. It also depends somewhat on your Michael's philosophy (not because I'd consider using Michael's but because of the implications of a club bid later on being 6-4 rather than 5-5).

I find 4 reasonable. I would not consider any other bid.

I'd consider three different bids

2 (who knows, I might get to show my clubs)
4 (jamming their auction)
5 (I doubt that anyone but me is going to suggest this one)

If we were white versus red, I would happily bid 5. 2 doesn't eat up enough bidding space. If I bid 4, I'm not going to feel happy when the opponents back into their Spade fit. 5 misrepresents my suit length and double could go terrible wrong.

Here, however, we're white versus white, and 5X -3 ain't gonna score to well at IMPs. So mark me down for 4 (but I'm not happy about it)

Close between 4H (first choice) and 2H (second).

I don't understand 3H and I don't like 5H (which at least I understand).
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Now double to show a real good hand with short spades.
Common auction. No problem yet.

BTW Phil Congrats on your big Pair win at Bridge Week. Nice Picture!

Thanks Mike.

If its a nice picture, I'm sure they mixed up my name with George Clooney - who won the 299ers at Long Beach :)
