The landscapes are extremely beutiful here, and changing colors all the time because of moving mist and changing cloud cover. In both of the first two pairs tourneys we ended first with 66.7 and 56.6% respectively. The teams event we lost with in total 66 IMPs on 24 boards, do you believe that's possible?
Matchpoints, decent opps and good partner but weak field, love all. We play Benji Acol, intermediate jump overcalls. In general, single jump shifts are fit-showing and double jump shifts splinters but this is a first-time partnership so I cannot say much more about our style. P bids diciplined and somewhat conservatively, I'm not sure if she expects me to do the same. Opps play Acol:
AJxxxx-Axxx-xxx-(void)
(p)-p-(1♣)-1♦
(p)-1♠-(2♣)-3♦
(p)-?

Hi,
4C.
I am not sure, if this shows a club control, but
I am also not 100%, if 4D would be forcing,
since I am a passed hand, so 4C it is.
With kind regards
Marlowe

I'm going to bid 5♣. My hand is huge now! A great example of using the box principle.

Five is OK, but will you pass if partner next bids five diamonds? I'd give up on seven, although it might well make, and just bid six diamonds over three diamonds. Hard to imagine a hand where this won't have good play.

I'm worried about missing 6 and 5♣ doesn't get the point across with these controls.
I'll start with 4♣, and hopefully pard can key card.

I like 4♣ here with new partner too, because of not only a void, but an utter lack of a heart call. Sounds like hearts are splitting somewhat favorably here.
5♣ admittedly has some allure in experienced partnerships.

I'd just bid 6D, no need to beat around the bush. Even if we make 7 we will get a top so whatever, I'll try and not help them with their lead.

P had Q-KQx-AKQxxx-xxx
I bid 6♦ (Justin said why, but a club lead seems somewhat naive anyway).
I wondered if it would have made sense to rebid spades, on the basis of the theory that p's hand sounds as having improved due to my 1♠ bid. But apparently everybody supports diamonds and nobody mentions 4♣ as choice-of-game.

If we are out after bidding game it would make sense trying to find spades in matchpoint event.
But as we are out for slam, diamond slam is more than enough. In a weak field very few if anybody will find slam, especielly in a contested auction. So the safest slam to play is more than OK. It will always give a good score EVEN if there is a playable spade slam and somebody find it.
AND with the extra plus of not risking any misunderstandings.
The diamond slam would be ok also in a good field. In a weak field - is excellent.
