hi,

i was pleased yesterday to see so many stars in A Bridge Too Far ,(had a nce chat with luis, finally now him lol) always nice but after the tourney several in fact quit a few players told how much they apriciate the possiblitly to be on the same table and competing against worldclass players , i favor all players having a possiblty to play at their own level( beg/int topflight and so on) but i feel its also needed for everybody to play against different levels exspecially players who can and will improve their bridgeskills, so big thx to all experts and beyond to give us this chance

greetings marc

Hi Marc:

I'm Steve (Co-founder and manager of TopFlight).

I think it is great your tourney attracts a wide range of players. You work hard to make your tourney a great experience (I have kibbed it many times and I think you do a wonderful job!)

The wonderful thing about BBO is that it is set up in a way to facilitate the needs of every level of player.

So, we can have clubs that cater only to players that speak a certain language (several of these exist), clubs that cater to friends of the hosts (Abalucy being a great example of this) and clubs that serve a certain skill level (Maureen's efforts on behalf of begnners/intermediates go beyond Herculean!).

There is a place for both "specialized" clubs/tourneys (such as Topflight and BIL) and general clubs/ tourneys. I know that BBO is considering closing clubs that do not use the club facilities for playing tourneys, and I find this a little sad, as we at Topflight do not. (We view Topflight as a club for our spectators as well as the players, and to use the club facility would defeat this purpose.) But, we do use the broadcast facility to inform our members that we will be starting soon. If we get a "broadcast to friends" option then losing the club facility won't be any loss to us.

There is no real difference between running a "friends list" tourney and a club tourney as far as i can see. Any sort of "restricted" tourney (beyond an open tourney that excludes enemies) really works much like a club on BBO.

So, there is a place here for so many options that all can be served well. I am very happy you are meeting with such success!

Steve

Agree with Steve entirely. In my case, HOBI would completely fall apart if not for the club room we have because we coordinate. I think just using usage is not a true indicator. A weighted average perhaps based on members/hands is more fair, I don't know - I simply want the clubs that completely suck up room for no reason at all to be eliminated quickly - it'll make the server faster, make BBO better, and a better BBO makes better members.
