Scoring: MP

Bidding all your way

P - 1
1 - 1NT
2

We play simple checkback stayman. I assume that this should be the case here as well since Dealer can still have an invitational hand.

As you have no fit and a minimum for the 1NT bid do you pass the 2 now or bid 2 as the convention says? Would your bid change if playing IMPS rather than MP's?

My thoughts were that P should not have 4-5 in the majors with 11 points as this would be opened, and unlikley to have a 10 point hand with 4-5 in the majors and much to shout about as this should be opened as well. Therefore he has 5 hearts and 10+/11 points otherwise balanced as he is happy to convert 2 into 2NT. Therefore leaving the 2 bid in could give us a good score

After

1m - 1M
1NT

2 is a bit like stayman

First it asks for 3 card support for the major (max or min)
Then it asks for 4 card support for the other major (max or min)
Then it asks for strength of the hand.

slospin.net has a good page on it

At IMPS, no question I pass for the safest positive. At MP, I bid 2D to allow a 2H sign-off, which will probably score higher than 2C.
It costs nothing to be nice -- my better half

Wouldn't you have raised to 2 if you had three hearts? So responder knows you have two hearts already because you're balanced? If you had five spades and four hearts couldn't you just say 2 after the 1NT and if you had five hearts and four spades wouldn't opener have said 1 after your 1, if you had a spade fit? And what if you would just rather play in opener's clubs than 1 NT? Doesn't make much sense to me. But I've probably just missed the point entirely :)

Geez is not playing 2clubs natural here more important than checkback by a passed hand?

Mike, isn't it 40 years since people quit making natural low-level bids? ;)

Some people play 2-way nmf by an unpassed hand and 1-way nmf by a passed hand. (Precisely so you can play 2 as NF here.) Given that it only helps when clubs are opened (since 1 - 1/ - 1NT - 2-->2 is sufficient).

Anyway, I pass at IMPs and I will bid 2 as instructed at MPs (presuming I'm confident of our agreements).

Hi,

I suggest, that you rebid 2C the next time,
I know the suit is ugly, but it is a 6 carder.

I dont play Checkback, I play NMF, i.e. I
would have to bid 2NT, if 2D is the neg. bid,
do it, you can also bid 2H, partner should have
a 5 carder, why else bid 2C, so you play your
5-2 fit, since partner is a passed hand, he has
to pass.

With kind regards
Marlowe
