It's late. I am tired and grouchy. when this happens i tend to write things that i may later regret... but maybe not.

I have noticed a strange trend on BBO. I find that very often people who list themselves as ACBL life masters (often mentioning some color) turn out to be incredibly rude. I was watching a table this evening. A player sat down, "ACBL glm" in his profile "Expert/World Class" listed in the email. and proceeded to make desparaging comments about his p's play during the hand culminating with "you're a novice, p!" and running off the table.

I'll save the details of what happened next and pass them onto abuse. at . bbo, but for now, has anyone else had similar experiences on bbo? (or at other venues). Is this really the image that the ACBL wishes to project? should gold/silver/brass/copper etc. etc. life masters be awarded to people that behave like this? hmmm?

I think that life master means you have spent a fortune playing in ACBL events and I could list at least 6 here that are players of limited ability and absolutely no manners at all, all are some form of life master ranging from wooden, plastic all the way up to the incredibly talented kryptonite life master

Makes me wonder where the "dark matter" LMs are. Are they undetectable? Or have they been banned?

...or they're busy trying to improve the state of Bridge and not bragging or "sitting on their laurels" while doing it.

The very best players are not boorish.

I have no such experiences awith ACBL Monsters. To me, rude behavoiur had happen from all levels, from all countries, both genders and all ages. But luckily, the overall frequency isn´t too big and I am quite quick in let rude people into my enemy list and then they are invisible and unhearable. Nice.
Kind Regards

Life Master is primarily an attendence award. Gold Life Master is tougher (2500+) but it still doesn't exactly require being a huge amounts of skill.

I think people who brag about their accomplishments in their profile are going to necessarily be more arrogant than those who do not.

Agree on that, I haven't seen anyone yet claiming to have won cavendish, bermuda or any real top tournament.

Those who have won such things don't need to brag about it.
