Thanks for your thoughts Mike.

100 % agree with mike, 4C is just that you don't like your hand anymore.

1.  2 is enough opposite a 3316. Pd did not promise 16+, didn´t he?

He did not? How much did he promise?

I won´t sell out to 2 Diamond with QJx, Kxx,x,AQJxxx, would you?
And if you won´t, there is just one sensible bid to make, X.

So I guess, he more or less promised an opener even Mike777 would open.
Kind Regards

Roland

I wouldn't double with the hand Codo gave.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

All problems are IMPs.

1. All vulnerable, you hold Jxx AK7x 97xx xx in 4th.
(1D) 2C (P) P
(2D) X (P) ??

2. All white, you hold AKQJTx xx xx Txx in 3rd
3C (3H), your plan?
(If you bid 3 or 4, what do you bid over 4?)

3. All white, void KJT9xx xx AQ98x in 1st
1H - 1S
2C - 3C
your plan, if any?

4. All vulnerable, you hold AKTx K9 Kx AQT7x in 2nd seat
(1D) X (2D) P
(P) X (P) 2S
Agree so far? Now what?

Getting a bit late to these, but

1. 2H. That's plenty. We might make game, opposite the perfect hand but note that even something pretty suitable such as like Axx QJx x AKJxxx needs clubs 3-2 with the Q onside and hearts 4-2.

2. Part of this is down to pre-empting style. Opposite one of my regular partners I would bid 3S and pass out 4H. Opposite another I would bid 4S.

3. This is one of those auctions that is worth discussing. Coming from an Acol-based background I'm not going to bid 3H here because it's not forcing, and I don't want partner to pass when I have such good clubs (the Acol-limit-bidding approach to life says that 2C was non-forcing, 3C was non-forcing, how can I now have a forcing 3H bid?). 3H is certainly encouraging, but it's inviting partner to raise with a doubleton heart and it seems to be landing on a pinhead to reach exactly 4H with 5C not making (if we have 2 diamonds and a heart to lose, surely we are very likely to have 2 diamonds, a heart and a club ruff to lose playing in hearts). I would bid 4C, which on similar principles is also non-forcing (a good hand bids 3D, 4D (splinter), 5C....). Partner can bid 4H over that with something juicy like Ax. Now I know what partner's hand is, he's probably going to pass 4C, but it's very close.

4. 3S. Closer to pass than to 4S.

1. 2, avoids embarassment when partner is (34)15 with strong clubs and extras, may be right even if partner is 3316.

2. 4. I think this will be 500 most of the time, but there's still the chance that the opps bid 5 and go down (especially against weak opps like the post says)

3. auto-3

4. Three (and a half) spades.
