I had to format my hard dirive and start from scratch. Win 98. Now I don't see the suit symbols in BBO Forum posts, like . INstead I see a line.

Can someone help in overcoming this problem?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I am not a computer expert, but her my experience:

a) While in the past I saw the suit symbols, I do not longer see them and see the coulored lines too.

b) I would guess that something has been changed about the font of the suit symbol.

c) My browser (Opera) gives me the option in which "mode" I want to see a web page. With a keystroke I change from "as the programmer wants me to see it" to "customer modus". So I get all the symbols again visible (in black) since a font is used that is on my computer.

Again, just a guess.

ciao stefan

CSS includes this in the suit definitions:

font-family: Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, sans-serif

However, it uses Unicode. IIRC, Win 98 supports it, but may be wrong.

When I reply to post, I am able to see Suit symbols in the heading Code Buttons, but unable to see suit symbols in regular posts.

Whats is CSS? Am I to download something?

Microsoft has a Unicode Arial font that I believe comes with more modern versions of Windows (and various other Microsoft products like Office).

If you do a web search for "Windows Arial Unicode" or similar you should be able to get more information. Hopefully you can download this font for free, but I think it is massive file (around 20MB).

I strongly suggest you consider getting either XP or Vista. I suspect you will find yourself having more and more problems in the future if you stick with 98.

Cascade Style Sheets. They are included in the page.

They define the presentation of the HTML content.
