Seems like a very reasonable auction, I might duplicate it.

Hmmmn, he passed the 2H bid so he doesn't have the AQxxx. He wants to compete and can have a nice 11-14. You seem to have a known H fit and the values to invite game.....tough call.... Your S say defend but your hearts say bid...I would tend to value my hand as 2S tricks and 1 H trick so pard with 2 means they are making so I vote for 3H but wish I could bid 2NT showing this kind of hand with the H refuge if needed....

Looks like one of those hands where I'm North, Canadagrl is playing South, she passes my takeout X, and my heart is in my throat until we set it one trick.

I think that's not what the X should be used for (I think North should act over 2), but that's just my opinion, and certainly looks like it ended up in the right place. Where would you rather be, 3?

Agree, what are we blaming someone for?

My partner here (not Richard) was quite annoyed when I passed his X

Then maybe he shouldn't balance with a 9 count when the opponents might not have a fit?

I expect to have the same auction at my table. I pass the double, and not we are White vs Red and if we can make 4 we may score 500 or possibly 800 vs 2x.

There maybe hands where we are set in 3 or 4 where we are getting 200 or possibly 500 vs 2x.

If the opps can make 2x..that's life, but I still clearly prefer my IMP odds by passing since I have a rather unpleasant suprise in the trump suit for declarer.

LOL; this will be a fun thread to follow after the "123" discussion.

Pulling to 3 holds down the damage, and its unlucky they have a gin 2.

I agree with both actions, but its easy to see how either could be wrong.

Hi,

neither, the only thing I can add,if you never
let your opp. make 2Sx= you dont double enough,
I always say that, if they make 3Dx+1 (maybe
those cases were not that clear after all).

The t/o is more or less automatic, and the pass,
... I can understand, when not yet, when than?
Unclear, what I would have done, but i think I had
passed.

With kind regards
Marlowe

I was North on the hand and my bid is automatic. It turned out my partner had the worst hand she could have given the auction and it made two. I pay off. I have seen plenty of results where we go +300 to 800.

I wouldn't suggest the bid is "automatic". That is a gross exaggeration. Yes, I would probably have the same auction AT MPs and BAM, but I know many very fine players who would pass the Nth hand and say "The pass is automatic." Trumps figure to break badly and you have no guarantee of a fit. To double at Imps is foolish.
