The following hand occured at our recent national team championship's and I wonder if you would be good enough to ask the bidding panelists their views on what they might bid.

N/S Vul
N Dealer

N E S W
1H 4S P ?

You as West hold

S T98
H void
D AQJ32
C AJT76

Do you bid on? And if so, what do you bid?

thanks

A competent LHO rates to bid 5 if I pass, so I will bid 5 now and hope he doubles instead. People tend to always think you are sacrificing if you bid like this at favorable.

I think the odds heavily favor 5 making and are slightly against 6 making.

Either a tactical 5 or 5 - a strong raise.
Depending on who I'm playing with and against.
Kind regards,
Harald

I'll cut partner some slack here since he's white/red. I see no reason to think LHO is going to bid 5H. He's red/white and doesn't have much (since I have everything).

I think 5 rates to be cold, and 6 is heavily favored.

My heart void, and the lack of a 5H bid by RHO tends to indicate that partner has three or 4 hearts along with his 6-8 spades. This doesnt leave him with many minor suit cards, and any minor suit losers go away on the diamonds after a non-club lead.

If I just bid 6S directly, the odds are against RHO finding the club lead, but if I try cuebidding 5H (to show the control/void) or 5D to show the suit, I think I improve their chances to find the club lead.

I'll bid 6 and pray that we don't have two trump losers. Who knows, they may even decide to sac in 7H. :)
Is the word "pass" not in your vocabulary?
So many experts, not enough X cards.

I'll pass. AKQxxxxx, xxx, x, x is just too much to wish for. KQJxxxx, xxx, xx, x is more the norm at these colors.

We might have some handling problems if dummy gets tapped at T1, and pard doesn't have solid spades.

If LHO tries 5, I'll take the push to 5.

I guess 5 is fine, I don't like the 'tactical' 5 since like Justin says they are so weak they won't be doing anything anyway, and 6 is clearly an overbid.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.
