AKQTxx...8xxx...AK..x

1C=1S
2H=3D?
3NT=5H
P

Actually had a decent game last night in midnight MP acbl, around 69-70% or so but I wanted to post this to just remind the good players how often we(me) nonexpert players mess up or simply have blind spots on hands. All the tough forum bidding and play problems are great fun but we(me) still mess up far too many easy ones.

This hand I blew first overall on.

My system rebid options are 3D or 3S I suppose, 2S or 3H are not system options, they are for much weaker hands.
We can make 7nt or 7s. 5H makes only 5.

The point of this hand is not what I should bid or how I should get to 7nt or not. Of course I should at least get to 6nt. Why did I miss it?

Simple... I just missed 2H being a reverse and bid 3d as 4sf....:)
Yes I know 2H is a reverse but I just never saw it. These are the blind spots that drive us and partner nuts. :)

I'd have bid 3 over 2.

Lol, I assume you would've been much better placed had you noticed the reverse and bid 3S?

At what point did you notice that it was a reverse? Partner is something like 2425 or 1435, slam must be cold on our combined values, (unless at the point of the 3NT rebid, you still hadn't noticed a reverse, then shrug) I don't know how to find the grand anymore, I might just bid 6H.

But anyway, this is why I'm B/I :)

I noticed it was a reverse when I put down dummy and partner said.....7nt has a better play than 5 hearts to all at the table. :) ...sigh..........

I just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. :)

Yeah, that's about the same time I notice that partner's so-and-so bid was forcing... when he announces to the table as I put down dummy :D

I played 7 and LHO did lead Ace. Dummy had a void . I planned the play and 7 should be cold. Happy about the contract I finally said "small club, no small heart". Director was called and ruled: club is played => 7H-1.
===
I played 6 and already lost a trick but diamonds of dummy were high for enough discards. I had in hand QTx. The Q was high, the T not. I played the Q followed by the T. Instead of ruffing the T in dummy and cashing 's, I discarded a from dummy. RHO played J and his comment has: this (trump) finesse is wrong :) . I never wanted to take the finesse.
===
Played 3NT with combined 23 HCP and opps lead a for my T. I cashed A dropping RHO's Q. Finessed loosing to LHO's K. Opps cashed a trick and played a 3rd for my K (all following). Now I still have A and will make 5 easy ticks (total of nine easy tricks) in and if I drive out Q. Instead I played on 's and go -1.
===
These are only 3 examples of stupid mistakes.
- The first 2 are slips of the mind. No idea how to avoid them. Any tips very welcome here! (Probably not caused by lack of concentration, rather the contrary).
- The 3rd one probably caused by playing too fast. (I tend to think less playing on BBO).
