Why do people need to bring the issue of race , religion or nationality whenever they start an arguement?
Today when i was playing in mbc with friends , all of a sudden, out of the blue, some guy started cursing about our nationality & religion. İ did inform a yellow, it was taken care of at the time, then i did write to abuse about the situation, hopefuly it will be punished accordingly.
Personally i dont really mind being sworn at,i am a guy who uses the f word quite a lot... Maybe because i wasnt familiar to racial and religious situations before moving to US, it hurts a little bit
Does having your own flag provoke potential racists?Should we hide it? Or should we just sit still and take the abuse everytime it happens.
Would using the “other” flag solve the issue? Probably for the time being yes... Is there another solution? İ really have no idea

You’ve only got to look at what’s happening in the world to see it is full of intolerant people, BBO is just a slice of that. No you don’t need to hide your flag and no way do you need to tolerate it, what you did sounds perfect. Don’t let it go unresolved, the more people who speak out and take action the better place BBO and the world may be one day.


PS If you keep on using expletives yourself you'll likely find yourself on the receiving end of ABUSE

I disagree. The World is full of nice, tollerant people and BBO is just a slice of it.

It's just that media for some reason tell us more about the 1% who are assholes than about the 99% who are nice. There seems to be an evolutionary explanation for this. Lab rats keep the memory of a punishment (say an electric shock) much longer than that of an award. Somehow our attention and memory are biased towards nastyness.

Now there's a thought. Sounds awfully hard to code into the BBO client however. And my laptop is mostly plastic anyway.

Obviously you are correct Helene, I should have chosen my words more carefully – the world is sprinkled with ***** intent on creating trouble.

I think the important thing here is that it only takes a handful of these people to cause a lot of misery. I see it ranging from the bully at school to the total destruction of 911, its all akin and theres likely a lot more happening than we care to admit.

In principle no, flags do not provoke. They just have an information value. Some people use a different flag because they like the colours (silly imho) or to make a statement, that is their choice but I will just assume the flag shows where you're from.

Only in context with what you write on your profile a flag might give added value to the provocation in the profile, but does not provoke on its own.

Flags don't provoke, people do.....

The other day, at my table, an "expert" was turning over pards faster than the cards......after the forth or fifth I politely informed him that this would be his last hand.....after the end of play when I had removed him, he was kind enough to invite me to perform an act on him that is illegal in 17 states......I reported him to his profile notes but didnt bother to mark him as an enemy....perhaps I will have the pleasure another time.....

Don't wory about that. The fact that certain acts are illegal in Cuba and Saudi Arabia does not mean that you're required to report to the authorities of said countries, even if the offender was fluying a Cuban or Saudi Arabian flag. Google and Yahoo may have agreed to sensor out Tibetan websites in China, but as far as I know BBO adheres to Nevadan law only. And certainly you should not worry about laws of other countries than whatever country you're in while playing.

the only racist abuse I have ever received on BBO funnily enough was from an American, there are lots of people with racist or predjudiced views, some just manage to hide them better than others, be grateful of the ones you can see and know, it is the quite sly ones you need to watch
