Scoring: IMPs

(1)-2-(4)-P
(P)-X-(P)-?

So your partner showed a strong Michaels hand. What is your plan?

Oops, last option should be "raise if partner bids 5m".

I guess I'll vote for "4NT, raise if partner bids 5"

Can I vote for "4NT, call director when partner bids 4"?

This is one place where Mishovnbg's "funny raptor" would have been useful. What how can raptor apply here? Misho uses 1NT overcall to show 4 in other major and five+ in a minor, or 5+ in the major and the lower side suit. Such that michaels after a major opening bid is always the two highest suits. In this case, you would know partner has the reds.

Not playing this way, there is a possibility partner has hearts and clubs. If partner has hearts and clubs, you will want to be in six clubs I would guess. If partner has hearts and diamonds, I think 4X is as good as anything. So this raises a probability problem.

1) Partner is more liklely to have hearts and diamonds, and I think 4X is the percentage action based upon frequency....

2) However, even if partner has hearts and diamonds, we might make 5 or they might take a 5 "save" and if partner has clubs and hearts, we should have a play for 6. So the greatest upside for imps is not the save percentage pass.

So, I will hedge my bets. At MP, I play the odds that partner has the reds and pass. At IMPs I try for the biggest scores and go with 4NT. Why not 5? If I bid 5 and partner has the reds, he will correct to 5, which is fine with me. But if he has hearts and clubs, he will pass, which is not. Bidding 4NT we find out what his minor is, and we get the lead up to his hand... both good ideas imo.

I bid 5 Diamond and if pd correct this to 5 Heart I correct him to 6 Club.
But if I read the rules correct I must bid 4 NT and raise a possible 6 club call to reach the same spot.
Kind Regards

Roland
