Do you double here IMP scoring?
If not what extra would you need before you doubled?
Would playing MP's make any difference?
And finally, there was a massive pause before East bid 4D, would this effect your bidding?

Why should I double? Because I have two aces? Because I have a doubleton in p's suit? Because I have three little trumps?

If opps know what they're doing, 4♥ makes: the trumps a spliting nicely, my diamonds are well placed for the declarer, and I don't rate to get a spade ruff. Of course, if opps don't know what they're doing I could double on general principles.

This is not an OBAR auction (after 1H-p-2D, they have not raised each other). Partners 2♠ bid is not some weak offering with KQJxxx and out. When my partners come in on auctions like this they have somethiong. So much in fact, that I would have raised to 3♠ on the round before this.

Will I double? I expect to beat 4♥ more often than not, and perhaps by several tricks. So here I would double. Some exceptions to this double however....

1) If my partner is a wack job who feels like he has to bid because it is his turn, I guess I would not double

2) If the opponents are playing 2/1 GF, the auction is impossible, so I would have to consider if partner is playing fast and loose with his 2♠ bid and does have some weak hand with lots of spades given the vul conditions. Thus if they play 2/1 GF, I would not double.

3) At matchpoint I would double because I expect to beat this more often than it will make.

4) A long hesitiation is actually probably a bad thing for double. If RHO is weak, he has nothing to hestitate over after his partner bids and then rebids hearts twice.

Hence are you saying in an OBAR auction (1♥) P (2♥) 'Opps Bid and Raise' not 'Over Bid and Run' and that a bid in 4th position here is normaly lead directing and any hand good enough to bid would usualy double first?

This isn't an OBAR auction. However, NS have advertised some real values, especially if 2/1 was GFing. When pard acts in this chair, he is usually has distribution and is suggesting a sac, and my hand seems to confirm this.

I'll pass. If its a giant misfit (like dummy has heart void), we might crush this, but it wouldn't surprise me if they made 5 either.

Well.. you might expect pard to be an ace stronger and opps to be bluffing, but I've been in these situations before and pard never had more than KQJxxx in practice

I wouldn't double 5♥ here, and I don't even consider that a close decision. Doubling 4♥ is masochistic at best.
