"I'm quite scared that people are even contemplating opening with this hand. I'm sure it's because it was put into a poll and suggested that some might open it that people are looking for reasons to do so. Because I'm fairly sure that most of you would pass this without a second's thought if it came up at the table?"

Speaking for myself only, I would open 2D without a second's thought if it came up at the table.

You're quite sure of yourself

If I must open, it's 10-12NT. 2 second choice but it doesn't appeal too much since majors are really easy to find still and my suit is horrible.

I do not like 1 (lead directing ?) and since 2 is not available, it is either 3 pr PAss. I have found that 3 works more often that it should (and since by agreement it can be almost anything partner will not rush to lead diamond). Think it is a close call , will go with the field and pass if not the right time for swingy action (doing very well or just not the right momentum)

2. I like partner to be able to bid sensibly opposite a 3rd-hand opening at the one-level, so my openings aren't very different from in first seat. Two-bids are different.

Like Apollo81, I'd like to have 10, but you have to work with what you were given.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

I agree. Pass.

Just realised, this thread is over a year old. What's up, Han?

I mentioned in another thread that many in this Forum open the bidding anytime they hold 13 cards.

This is another case in point.

(I bet they would open a strong 2 if they held 14 cards).

There's better examples than this. We are 3rd chair green, so that gives a license.

It's funny, I was reading this, and I saw pleighton's comment and I thought this was really old LOL.

I still pass by the way, but my reason is that I think there is a reasonable chance this will get passed out, and bidding just makes it easy for them to bid their majors.

2 is a 2nd choice, not 1, but 2 randomizes the results.

I would open 2. I am just not going to sit there and let the opps have all the space they need when they hold the majors. Ok... so partner was 5-5-1-2 with a bad hand. Next.

Normally a clear pass.

Under some circumstances I might chose something else, of course. No idea why this thread was reopened....
Kind regards,
Harald
