Geez
In my County, the sheriff ran for election, as a democrat and won.
He then resigned for a better paying job.
Now there is a huge fight over who gets to decide who is the new sheriff. Does the locally elected County commission or the leaders of the county Democratic party decide. The law seems at best, confusing, on the issue.
To make matters even more Hot. The local party has appointed a black man who it seems has all kinds of legal problems. He may or may not have been kicked off/fired from the police force years ago and has huge legal money issues among other problems.
Race has become a huge issue in this whole thing.
The acting sheriff is white.
