How do u bid this one?

Steve

Hi,

1H (1) - 2D (2)
2H (3) - 3D (4)
pass (5)

(1) on the table I would not bring myself
to bid 1S instead of 1H
(2) similar to SAYC, i.e. promising a rebid
(3) not strong enough to make a reverse,
and I would not do it, but my regular
partner would
(4) min. 2D bid
(5) as good as anything, responder will pass 3H

With kind regards
Marlowe

I would elect to open 1H and reverse in S even though it is a tad skinny. I can live with 2D as a response to 1H, also thin. I can not accept responder bidding 3NT rather than 4H. The good S cards suggest 4H has a far better play than 3NT. The prime cards in the minors should help ward off the punch should we have a S or trump to lose but will be fatal in 3NT should partner not have a C honor card.

1H - 2D (1)
2S (2) - 3D (3)
3S (4) - 4H (5)

(1) Forcing to 2NT
(2) Natural, sound opening
(3) Natural good suit, now committed to game
(4) 56 majors
(5) Or whatever partner judges!

In my style of 2/1 exactly the same auction except 2 is GF (Is good enough for me) and with 2 being GF, 2 doesn't show extra values.

1-2!(GF)-2(reverse with 5-4 normally, I play Flannery+strong 4441)-3-3(6-5)-3NT (sigh).

in classical symmetric relay:

2NT(11-15 (or 10-14) 55+ maj.)-long pause for thinking, but probably pass. i'm not content with my club stops. 3 is another alternative, invitational with spades. This is just not a good responder's hand for this kind of opener.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Why on earth should 4 Heart be better in a 6-1 fit then 4 Spade in a 5-2 fit ?
This is the case just because the Hearts are solid but you won`t know this at the table.

I had bid 1 2 2 3 3 3 NT.

No beauty, for sure, but who needs perfect biddings for 65 hands?
Kind Regards

Roland
