Some hands are just hard to bid SAYC, that is why so few top pairs play it. :-) Can anyone think of a world class pair other than Bobby Wolff and Dan Morse who play it?

I will take a stab at it for SAYC, but first, let me put in a plug for how I bid this playing my way.

2D 2NT 2D = multi 2D, 2NT = inquiry (hehe)

The multi 2D which is 90% of the time a weak two in either major, but can be a balanced 22.5 to 24 hcp or an acol two bid in a minor with at least 9 tricks and a suit that can play opposite , 2NT is an asking bid and 4C shows an acol 2 bid in clubs (9.5 tricks in clubs, with a suit that has at MOST one loser opposite a singleton). West can provide a likely four tricks, and clearly at least 3, to go along with his partner's promised 9.5 so you are talking 12.5 tricks. IF he had a singleton club, he would try for seven, but here, I think a tame 6C is best. Note, he has the option of a gambling 6NT, right sided, if this was matchpoints.

Now, in SAYC, I would suggest...

i guess the 2C auction makes sense, since 3D promised 5+ cards.. but the 1C auction doesn't track for me.. after 1C : 1D, why insist on a diamond slam with what could be a 7 card fit? just asking

Doesn't 1C - 1D promise 5 cards? I never found it useful to bid four cards in diamonds with this auction (except perhaps balanced hands that are too strong for 1C - 3NT).

i guess it could, but i've never played that it does... if, after opener's rebid, i reverse into a major (1C:1D ; 1S:2H) *then* it shows 5 diamonds
