Call me old-fashioned, that looks like a 1 opener followed by a 2 rebid. If partner responds 1NT, maybe I'll invite with 2NT.

Pass could work well
You hope to pass partner's takeout double or bid 2 in an auction like

(1) - P - (1M) - (P)
(1N) - 2

Unfortunately, I'm worried by my major suit shortage. I expect that if I pass, the auction is going to be at 2M before I get a chance to bid, in whcih case I'm pretty much shut out of the auction.

I prefer an immediate 1NT to clarify my values and approximate shape...

Oops!

In that case, put me in the 1NT camp.

I wont call you old-fashioned. I will tell you that your RHO beat you to the punch when he opened 1 before you had a chance to, which makes it impossible for you to do so.

Sometimes it helps to read the whole problem.

1NT. I have diamonds stopped. The only thing that worries me is that I won't be able to claim 150 honours in a diamond contract :P

I pass. But mainly because I like to trap pass. :P

I would bid 1NT, no one trap passes any more. Do they?

I pass. A NT contract can't be good if I'm the declarer. RHO's points are all working if s/he has a 4=4=4=1 distribution.

Oops, sorry, didn't see it was MP. Then I agree, 1NT makes sense, and preempts LHO from bidding their 4CM.

1NT ..can't afford for opps to find a major fit by passing...if opener's p has 6-7 points...may think twice to bid at the 2 level when vul..:)...

And may get a juicy lead too:)

1NT for me..making it more difficult for the opps to find a major fit, and telling PD that I have 15+ to 18- HCP and D's well stopped and a balanced hand.

I am usually the one overcalling in questionable situations, but this one gives me pause. The vulnerability stinks, as we may profit more by defending or we may go for too much (even undoubled). The QJ is a terrible holding; I might have two unstopped suits.

I don't really know what is right here.

I pass. Against 1N I lead Diamonds from the bottom (T,J,Q,K,A).

If it goes 1D-1M-2M. I guess I would bid 2N next
