Watching Vugraph, one hand piqued my interest. The auction at one table went 1D-2NT(♥+♣)-5D-5H-X-P-P-P, scoring +850. A club lead from Axx would have yielded a ruff for -200. Big swing.

This hand suggests a rare interpretation of 5C. 1D-2NT-5C. If 3C (unusual versus unusual, perhaps) would agree diamonds as trumps, invitational+ or GF, and if 4C would be a Splinter, is 5C more useful as Exclusion RKCB or the like, especially if agreeing diamonds (little room for answers), of is it more useful as a lead-suggesting shortness bid, preemptive to 5D?

Any thoughts on this? If used, the 5C call would have either netted +200 or, worst case, protected for -300 at 5DX and a push.

(As an aside, with Axx in clubs, perhaps Ace and out a club makes sense anyway...)
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

My experience with Exclusion has been that its very useful and you usually are just looking for one keycard from partner for slam.

I strongly uspect that Ace of clubs may have been the best lead on the actual deal anyway.
