Scoring: Matchpoints

You are South holding the hand with Spade J43 said:

LHO  PARTNER    RHO    YOU
                          Pass    Pass
1NT      Pass        2!      Pass
  2      Pass        3NT      Pass
Pass    Pass

      1. 1NT was 15-17, 2H was transfer to 2S’s

Partner leads the C4 (4th best leads), and we see the following dummy.
Eventually, a low club is played from dummy and our JACK loses to the King
Declarer helpfully leads the Diamond 9 ducked all around then the diamond 10. partner plays the Diamond 3 and then 7 (standard signals) on the first two diamonds. Plan your defense.

Scoring: Matchpoints

For some reason your RHO dealt again (ok several boards later), and he opened 1. This was passed out despite an agreesive balancing partner. For better or worse you lead the heart 4 (too late to change it now, later maybe decide if you prefer something else).

First few tricks (leader then cards)
 1  You H4,  7,  J,  K
2 RHO  S5,  8,  Q,  2
 3  LHO  S3,  4,  K,  9
 4  RHO  SA,  J,  T,  6
5  RHO  S7... plan your defense.

Hand 1

opp shapes

probably

??
???
KQJT9
K??

partner shapes

???
???
873
???4

partner has 5-7 pts (opener has 5 diamond kqjt9 so hes more likely to have 14-16HCP then 15-17HCP)

partner cannot have qjx in otherwise he would have lead them.

So if partner have

Kxx
xxx
873
Axxx

return clubs to hold to 3

if partner hand is

kqx
jxx
xxx
xxxx

return spades is best

if partner hand is

xxx
jxx
xxx
Axxx

heart switch declarer make 6 on a h guess.

if declarer has bare KQ of and 3 lousy he will always cash them before playing diamonds.

final conclusion in MP i will return clubs its safer.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

Lost that battle long ago. I argued that declarer should always be south (hidden or not). See for instance, http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...indpost&p=14090. The policy became and has been for years, the player is always south. That seems to be the bbo conventional way to show it.
