Hand 1:

I'm going to pass - Its more likely that partner's hand can produce 4 tricks on Defense than 11 on Offense.

Hand 2:

a. No. The hand isn't quite strong enough for a "good" Michaels bid.

b. I'm going to double. I initially decided to treat this hand as a strong Michaels and will not follow through with that plan.

Hand 1: pass. If he has info double, partner should bid 4NT...

Hand 2: Dbl. And yes I agree with 2H because you have a really strong hand, just 4 losers and a 6-5. Normally 2S should mean invitational in H (if I remember correctly), Dbl should be understood as optional.

hand 1, 4NT... true we won't take 11 tricks but i have no defense (yeah i see the 9's and 8's) and IF pard's x was for t/o i won't put down a worthless dummy

hand 2, michael's is fine imo.. i have nothing i'm fond of in a heart contract, but i expect pard has 4 (maybe 5, but i doubt it) hearts... i don't like to make the last guess, so i think i'd pass.. who knows, pard might not be through

MPs, green vs red
1)

Unlike most here, I like to play 4-SPADES-X as takeout. Also 4NT would be takeout as well, but two suited. So over double, with no tricks and a void, I am bidding. My club suit is so weak, I will bid 4NT and if partner bids 5C, I will bid 5D to give partner a choice between the red suits.

1)
Since my p's Dbl is pure T/O I'll bid 4NT as "pick a suit"! Pass is suicidal!

2)
a) Yes
B) Dbl, showing a strong hand willing to bid further. Even if I don't find the 6-2 spade fit, this is the best description of my hand. Partner can pass with something like [xx K10xx Qxxx xx].

1) 5h the suit where my values are and the suit I'm allowed to bid with only 4 cards after pd doubled 4s.
2)
a) No, the hand is too good for Michs, I don't like the void and values in diamonds either.
B) 4s Whatever....

1. 4s seems serious as they are vul. Still, I think i will pass.

2. a) not much. i prefer to overcall 1s then bid c. if i dont have anything in d or dk is changed to ck, i will bid mike cue, but not with this hand.
B) 4s, telling pd u have 6 of them.

On the first board.
We play X as takeout, but pd passed! This ended up ok, as I held
AQxx
Axxxx
void
AKJx

I don't like the pass either.
We make 5H but they go for a min of 500

On board 2, your left hand opponent holds
Jxxxx
AQx
Qxxx
x

he meant his S bid as natural!! 4H makes 11 tricks. If you bid 4S as I did and some of you did, you need to hold this to 2 off. If you play a S to the Q and they defend correctly, forcing you in H, you are going for 800. Defenders made a slight slip in the play and I was able to get out for 5s for a good board.
