I was just in a tourney where the frustration of the number of subs
needed and the difficulty/time of matching subs to players was too
much for the director. The director (a BBO yellow nonetheless!)
closed the tourney and swore never to host another one. I propose
the following as an alternate substitution scheme to take this burden
off of directors.
The partner of the player who is stuck gets to scan the substitute
list. The player can select a name from the list or type in a name.
One a name is suggested, a message is sent to each opponents
asking if it is ok for the stuck player to be replaced. If the new
player selected is not in the substitute list then they are also asked
if they would like to join. Directors would then be free to deal with
cases where two or more players get stuck at the same time which
I would imagine is pretty rare.
Plus, everyone would be happier because players would be able to
choose their own partners and find more compatible people.
Any thoughts?
