You, one other person, and a pack of cards. What do you do? (Let's assume strip poker is out of the question...)

Cribbage is the best two-handed card game ever invented imo.

Do you mean http://www.pagat.com/rummy/samba.html ? That's described as needing 3 packs, though.

I voted for Gin Rummy, but it depends on the version for me. I also really like Casino.

My Girlfriend and I play it in a quite simple fashion. The maximum value for knocking is always 10, and we always play just a single match. First to get to 100 or higher wins, and we don't bother with a game bonus, box bonus or shutout bonus.

How do you like to play it and which variants do you hate?

One of 2-player variant called Rogue is a real fun. Sorry, did not find rules of Rogue in English. :(

If you must play poker, please play a fun variation, not Texas Holdem. At least play limit if you must...

I find the Kosmos 2-player series quite interesting, for example Halali or Lost Cities. With a regular deck of cards, I would suggest Jass.

why is texas holdem not fun? only because everyone thinks it's fun?

Casino is my favorite 2-player game. But in the standard version only addition is allowed. Allowing subtraction, too, makes it more challenging. Great for teaching children to deal with small numbers in a fun way.

Texas Holdem is so popular because it's easily televisable. Omaha or Stud is much more interesting because there are so much more possible combinations.

Used to play that a lot :)
Do you use a Spanish/Italian deck or an American/French one?

But the variants I played for 3-5 players are even better.

Stud is much more "interesting" than NLH? That's gotta be a first.

Agree with gwnn, just because something is popular doesn't mean we have to be contrarian.

I would definitely answer poker, what version is a good question, I would not go with stud though!! lol. We've been playing triple draw and NL single draw recently and those are really fun.

Last time I remember playing with one other person I was playing beggar my neighbour. So I guess I'd pick that - nothing like a pre-determined, if unpredictable winner :)
