Playing with a good player in a regional swiss, whose bidding style is very different from my own, you hold:

Scoring: IMP

Partner opens 2C
You resist the temptation to respond 7N, and bid 2S showing a good suit and a reasonable hand.
Partner bids 3C
Resisting the temptation to bid 7C, since you want to get to 7N, you try 4C
Partner bids 4H
You bid 4N (rkc)
Partner bids 5S (2 and the club Q)
What do you think partner has? Are you sure? What do you bid next?

Guess unless pard was playing 2 as 8+ tricks or something like that, a lot of his points must be in .

Anyway, here's a probable hand:

?
AKQ?
KQ?
AQXXXXX?

Since there's a danger of a loser, I would just settle for 6...

I'd like to convince myself that 6 asks him to bid 6N with a and 7 with a void: he probably would not try to show me the void in response to keycard.

It is not at all clear what 6 should mean here: it is clearly a grand slam try, but does it relate to ? It seems odd that it should on this auction: odd to the point of being logically impossible, especially if you respond specific Kings to 5N: how can you possibly have a hand on which 3rd round control is important?

I think (or maybe I am just kidding myself) that over 6 he should cue 6 with a void and bid something else with a stiff (or longer?) .

One thing is clear: I am not going to be forming a long term partnership with this player, because I cannot construct a hand on which I would open 2 and eventually respond 5 (see my postings on the current 2/1 opening hand).

So, since he claims to be a good player, I will inflict 6 on him and see whether we are in tune. I will pass 6N, bid 6N over 6, and bid 7 over 6.

On the other hand, maybe my bidding plan suggests that the mushrooms I ate for dinner were 'funny'?

I am absolutely convinced that theres a spade void across the table, since pard opted to cue instead of launch key card.

I see nothing wrong with a 2 opening on hands like:

and this is what I expect. I could torture pard with a 6 or a 6 call, but I know where the hand is going.

I wholeheartedly agree with Phil; to me it's screaming void in spades.

I'm bidding seven clubs at turn 2 after 3 hits the table.

I was 99.5% sure that partner had a void (how could he possibly have anything resembling a 2C opener otherwise? Is J AKQ KQ KQTxxxx a 2C opener???) and 98.5% sure that he had a spade void, but as a torturer of small children and bridge partner's alike, I tried the torture bid of 6D. I felt in this auction, that 6D was a 6N bid with interest in 7C. Partner, not liking his void for playing 6N was forced to bid 7C! Ha.

Well, as it turns out, I was 98.5% wrong. He had a void, but it was in hearts! I am glad no one bid 6N....

He had A - KQx KQT9xxxxx

Not my idea of a 2C opening, but it did get us to the grand....

Actually, 1C-1S-5C-5D-5N-7C works fine. As does, 1C-1S-2D-3C-5C-5D-5N-7C.

Not so easy. I can easily have neither minor suit ace for my 1S response.
KQxxx Axx xx xxx is a relatively good 4C bid. In fact it would be hard to stop me from bidding a slam with that hand. You just hope you can stop me if I hold KQxxx KJx xx xxx.

5H is a major major overbid.
