If east opens, I'd expect:
2♠ - 3♦ - 4♠ - X - all pass
The double promises a good hand with no real diamond fit, and south will probably leave it in. The likely result here is 500 to north/south.
If east-west pass:
1♦ - 1♥ - 3♦ - 3♥ - 3♠ - 4♥ - Pass
or
1♦ - 1♥ - 2♣ - 3♥ - 4♥ - Pass
I'd be happy in 4♥ here. This contract is basically cold and should obtain 450 for north/south. It's true that 6♦ can be made on the lie of the cards, but this requires a 3-2 diamond break and something reasonable happening in hearts. I'd say that 4♥ is the best single-dummy contract, but of course looking at all four hands I'd want to be in 6♦.

I agree with Adam but want to add that I like his second option better if East passes. I won't show the hand as a 1-suiter when it's 2-suited. If you rebid 3♦ you might miss a club slam when North is 3-5-1-4. He will usually either rebid 3♥ or 3NT.
If I rebid 2♣, he can bid 4th suit, and then I can show my 6th diamond.

* Natural, slam invitational
The 3♦ rebid over 1♥ will almost always ruin slam investigation.

2S-3D-4S-X is a normal start.
South has a very tough problem over this (imo anyways). The spade king argues for defending, but the rest of the hand would seem to indicate bidding. South might well bid 4N (2 card disparity) over which north would bid 5D. I think I like this route better (and would only get 420). Passing the X is fine too,

3♦ doesn't show 6 diamonds, it's the catch-all bid when you don't have ♥ support (three or Hx), a ♠ stopper, or a 5th ♣. This auction can occur with 3=1=5=4 or 2=2=5=4 shape.

with no weak two opener forthcoming from west, south opens 1 diamond, pass north bids 1 heart pass back to me
as South, how do I value my singleton K spades
I actually bid 2 clubs 2nd time around writing off the 3 hcp for the K spades (this is what I am not 100% sure about (can someone help in explaining of hand evaluation on this)

Sceptic, I support your start to the auction: 1♦ - 1♥ - 2♣.
It's my opinion *nobody* knows the value of a stiff king, early in the auction anyway.
After that start responder needs to establish a forcing auction and rebid the hearts. Depending on your agreement, it is either an immediate 3♥ or 2♠ followed by 3♥. (I go via the 4th suit - there's been recent discussion elsewhere on the "standard" agreement here, or lack of standard agreement)
