On such an auction, does anyone play that 3NT is not natural but shows a H tolerance such as Hx and an invitational minor suit hand?

If I ever make an agreement about 3NT in this specific case,
then 3NT would show longer diamonds then clubs, i.e. sugesting
a sacrificie against 4S in diamond but not in clubs.

With kind regards
Marlowe

This is a very sensible treatment that can be applied in a lot of cases I think.

Actually, I missed one option: double. When I tried to go back and added it, another topic was created. I asked admin to delete one, but the one with dbl was deleted instead. :(

I am not a great lover of Michaels, and believe that - as a minimum - they must be well codified. Since I also play that the Michael is either garbage or gold, there is no problem here: 4. Pard will decide what to do, according to his hand.

As an aside, I also play that 3N and X are to play.

Both Vul, IMP, bidding went:
- - - - - - (Pass) - pass
(1S) - 2S - 3S - ?

Scoring: IMP

....-....- Pass - Pass
1 - 2 - 3 - ???

Did I misunderstand the problem or something?? It looked to me like the bidding went two passes followed by 1, 2, 3 and it's now my turn to bid. If so, it would seem to me that PASS is a valid bid to consider, but it wasn't listed as one of the options.

Are you guys joking, or do you really think putting our heads on the chopping block in order to save against the opponents probable 3 part score makes sense. If pard is 2-5-1-5 (by far the single most likely distribution) we figure to go down in 4 versus their spade part score that may not make.

Please, tell me I misunderstood the question or that you are jesting.

I think you should compete with this "pure" hand. You got no waste, so you should get yourself involved. I like 4C if it is pass or correct (it should be as I passed previously). I have no problem wth 4N either.

Pass. Unless partner can back in with a bid or double I don't want to suggest a vulnerable sacrifice.

Sorry, I almost forgot this thread.

At the table I reasoned: I have support for either of the minors, and Qx support for H. If pd has 6 H and 5 m, we might belong to 4H. If pd has 6 m and 5 H, we might belong to 5m. If pd 5-5 and minor is D, we might belong some level of D, but 5-5 and C, we might belong to 4C only (or dbl if opps bid on).

So, ....... I dbled, trying to ask pd where we should land on. And pd PAAAAAASSED with x, AJxxx, x, AKQxx. Opps made 3SXed while we had 5C.

I'm afraid your partner was with the majority.

The one general rule that nearly everybody plays is that when partner has pre-empted, double is penalties (and a Michaels cue-bid is usually considered to be a pre-empt).
