This is your big chance to avoid having to go through this process and to help us find any last minute bugs!
Before I get into the FD-related info about 4.5.5, there is a new feature in this version that people have been asking for. When you are playing at a IMP or MP table in the Main Bridge Club, your IMP/MP score from the previous board that you played will now be displayed.
When you log in with 4.5.5, a bunch of FD files (representing stock convention cards and stock conventions) will be installed automatically on your PC. You can use these files (or FD files that you create yourself) when playing anywhere on BBO, but other people at your table will need 4.5.5 (or another recent beta) in order to see the info contained in the FD files you use.
Special thanks to our FD Czars, Inquiry and Cascade, and all the people who have helped them get the stock FD files to the point that we are ready to allow the general membership to check out FD.
Please note, however, that these files will probably always be "works in progress". None of the stock convention cards is anywhere near "complete" yet, and it is not unlikely that you will find occasional typos in some of these. However, even in its current state I am confident that the availability of this facility will enchance the BBO experience for a lot of our members.
One of the reasons we are eager to get a release out now is that we want to start to get feedback on FD from our "average" members - forums regulars are not "average" - you are "special"
We are also hoping that spreading the word about FD will increase the number of volunteers who are willing to help us improve the stock files.
The FD software itself and the way it integrates with BBO still has a lot of room for improvement and I am hopeful that I will get some time to work in this area in the months to come.
I really appreciate the generally enthusiastic reception that FD has received from forums regulars, and the efforts that many of you have made to help with creating files, testing, design suggestions, etc.

I suggest you use the first method, but however you do this, please make sure you exit the BBO program COMPLETELY before you start the download process.
