Sadly not. When organising the Juniors in Sydney this year, the venue wanted to take us to cleaners on either broadband or a regular phone line.

I cant recall remember the exact details, but they wanted something like $100 per day for a fixed phone line plus some exorbitant rate/ minute despite all local costs in Australia being charged untime by all carriers.

Hotels etc are a law unto themselves. A bit like airports. Have you ever considered what these places charge for laundry or those impulse goods in the mini-bar?

As for the comment about BBO customers paying for Vugraph via Paypal, this is such a bad idea, let's not go down this path. Unless of course, the same people also suggest we pay for dowloading the bulletins and the results. Internet Vugraph should be become an integral part of major tournaments and be provided by the organisers.

oooohh yes.
I once had to get some laundry done in a hotel in Switzerland.
With the exception of the suit jacket they dry cleaned I discovered it would have been cheaper to _buy_ replacement clothes of the same quality.

Isn’t that what those little bottles in the bathroom are for? Find creative places to hang the clothes and turn up the air conditioning.

Let me confess: yes I have done laundry while traveling. (No I am male.)

Generally a hotel will nail you if you don't negotiate the data line up front. Its basically a throw-away to have a high-speed line in a conference area; I'll bet most venues big enough to host a national are already hardwired with high-speed lines.

Does anyone think that the ACBL is the only client that needs highspeed? :)

Memphis just needs the foresight to ask before they book the hotel (about 4 years in advance I think).
