<hand given to me by a friend>

You are playing in the GNT team quals. You've landed in a very good grand, 7H. The hands are as follows:

Scoring: IMP

A spade, the 4 is led. Plan your play.

I will choose the simple line by drawing one round trump and then play spades, planning to ruff high one round spade. This will fail if spades break 5-1. I dont think establishing club will help you, as you are still one trick short.

Must admit at the table I would have drawn 2 rounds of trump ,then ruffing spade.

drawing 2 rounds as opposed to 1 round gives up on the chance that someone is 1-1 in the majors. Anyways, I think checking on KQJ tight of clubs is a good idea.

I will play low from dummy, with the 9 fro hand and then still go 1 off(but only 1!) when I find everything wrong :)

Now seriously, you can combine some chances I think:

A,K,A,ruff,Q, if they are 2-2 you only need 4-3 or 4-2 now. IF they aren't then try for them to be 4-2.

Yes you have to combine chances imo. But it all depends on how trumps are splitting! is the only suit which offers alternatives so you need to get on it as fast as possible because of entry problems. You can't afford a trump first, so A, A, , A, ,... unless there are some new problems by now.

Give you two clues to help.

1) Trumps are 2-2.
2) Justin's on the right track.

i'd probably win the spade, club to A, ruff a club, middle heart to Q, ruff a club high, heart to A... ruff another club (if necessary) and hope to ruff a spade and toss a spade on a club... 2/2 trumps help bunches

Scoring: IMP

Now seeing the four hands, you have the hammer on the opening leader with 10 cards in the minors.

The diamond was the 13th and slam going trick.

:) Play to set up the long club or the fourth spade. Forget 3-3 spades, assuming you can read the lead. Club to ace, ruff club, heart to ace, ruff a club, J of hearts, ace of spades, ruff a spade high, ruff club, I hope. Pull trump, if need be. Diamond, play back to good spade.

Sorry if trumps are 2-2 then I see no problem with the hand, just preserve A in case this hand ends with a double squeeze.
