BTW: re 5422 usually playing better in a suit. Seems to me that I recently saw some hands with 15-17 hcp and 4-5 in majors opened 1NT on viewgraph on several occasions. Very Interesting.

With 4-5 you wont be able to show your shape. The rebid problems make a 1N opener attractive. Doing it with the major suits is perhaps eccentric, but there are a lot of hands where I'd agree with it. with 5M and 4m though, you can naturally bid out your suits. In this case since it's an overcall, you won't be bidding clubs so a 1N overcall is more attractive than opener. I'll still stick with 1H though.

Partner had:

♠ Jxxxx
♥ Kx
♦ Jxx
♣ xx

There were a couple of interesting points about this hand.

1) I bid 2NT which was clearly a mistake. Everyone has twigged that this is a dangerous auction now to be in (has misfit written all over it) and passing for now seems quite prudent. I went 3 down, thankfully undoubled.

2) I don't think a Rozencrantz (re)double should be required to bid in all situations. Like everything, judgment should be involved. I don't like it on the above hand, for example, as you are unfavourable and partner has only made an overcall.
