S open 1H
W 2C
N X
E 2S
S 3H
W 3S
N X
Pass out

I was poor (or foolish N). Opps play very well to make 3S.

What do u think of Xing 3S? Foolish enough? lol

Any way to set it?

Hand records here (ACBL pair 11am Monday - bd 11)

No way to set 3S. The NS bidding seems very reasonable I think I would have made the same bids at every turn...tough hand.

Small ♠ lead takes it down, I think. Edit: but Justin can presumably tell you how to make anyhow.

The bidding looks ok.

The bidding for N looks ok, yes.

3H by south is perhaps a bit pushy, and 2S by east is awful.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

if you dont eat a few doubles then your arent doubling enough, partner opened the bidding, granted partner could have just as easy disounted a jack and opened 2♥ which might have stopped you from doubling...but off of this auction theres nothing wrong.

given the club position trump leads do not work. South has 1 spade and 2 clubs, so a lot of clubs can be cashed and south cannot ruff in.

Is the bidding by north really ok? I ask only because he bid his values twice, yes? What I mean is over 2♣ he doubled. This shows 4♠ and what, 8-11 points (fill in your preferred range). What did he have? The promised 4♠, and 10 hcp, with the KQ of spades looking poorly placed. If this was MATCHPOINTs, ok double would be fine. But here if partner knows you have what you have, you can pass and let him consult on what to do next. This is not a forcing pass, but it allows partners input. On this hand, partner with nothing (on this bidding, did you expect him to have much more than a lot of hearts?), can tamely pass.

Incidently if this had been matchpoints, ... the double only cost you one matchpoint (one pair 4♠ making). Once they found spades, you were pretty much doomed at matchpoints, as 4♥X, 3♠, are essentially the same score. But at imps, there is a world of difference between -170 and -530, but very little difference between +50 and +100. Keep that in mind I think.

As for setting 3♠, forget about it. You can't even set 4♠.
