This hand shows how effective a physic bid can be IF used in RIGHT time. I have two questions here for discussion.
(1)What can North do after west's 1S? Is it possible to detect it?
(2)How high is the risk to cause fire back home by psyhic bid after pd opened? I dont know if this polish pair play Polish club or not. If 1D is limited opening bid, then this looks like a well judged psyhic bid.

Hi friend!
Bluffs are effective, because most of system dont menage them as rare happen. Most of players rare use them, some of players never use them. Psyche bids are part of my style, as you know. One of reasons to play optional, not take out dbl, is to be able to menage them.
In your example is simple to bid that hand. N made wrong bid 2HE. In polish club 1SP from W is RF, so he can simple pass and later bid 2 or 3 HE exactly showing his hand. Example:
W N E S
1D PASS
1S PASS!!! 1NT PASS
3DI 3HE: 5+SP-5+HE

Excellent point Misho!!!
So after a polish 1c-1M a bid in the other major denies the major being bid while a later bid shows both majors probably exposing a psyche....
I like this a lot.... objections anyone?

I do not understand why in the auction 1D p 1S p, 1NT p ? responder should do anything other than pass. Bidding 3D (even assuming that this didn't show INV+ values) just lets the cat out of the bag as far at the initial psyche is concerned and an initial 3D bid would have been much more effective.
As indicated this lousy result could have been avoided by partnership agreements.
Rider: As tactical efforts I am all in favour of psychic bids.
People, however, should appreciate the nature of the great service provided by bridgebase.
Though this should not be the case in a quality event (which this final presumably was) there will be many unpractised partnership of a variety of experience levels.
Good players who would usually believe in relatively frequent psyching (a practice that as far as I am aware is not prevalent among top quality players) should possibly tone down their tendencies in environments where they meet many unpractised partnerships. If they do not then we are in a situation akin to shooting fish in a barrel with unusual destructive 2 level openings and we will scare people away.
By all means strive to be a big fish in a big pond but don't forget that big fish in small ponds just drown.
(Aside: as far as I am aware using methods to control psychic bidding is against the Laws of the game, what ethical/legal considerations are there for people playing Policlub and other slightly artificial systems when it comes to psyching)

I'm also a great fan of psychic bids, and this one is perfect (you can allways bid D IF nescesary).
What Misho says is true (it was the first thing that jumped in my mind): 2H is not the right bid. If 1S is forcing, you can allways pass first. Bidding 2D can also be a sollution to show 55+M.
And indeed, I would never bid 3D after 1D-1S-1NT-? with this hand, just to avoid partner to go crazy and to expose the possibility of a psychic. And then what's your sollution Misho? 2H is balancing, 2D or 2S maybe (or Dbl?)...
I'd probably bid 2D right away.

The haspel north on this hand should have been particularily prepared for a psychic bid anytime in the third segment. The haspel team entered the last 12 boards with a 53 imp lead. The polish champs need to create swings, and a lot of them. And yet Haspel helped create the two big swings for the poles, and both at the table where the psych occurred. The first was board 1 where the haspel pair doubled a 3S part-score which makes, and the second when haspel pair at this table missed a cheap save against against a vulnerable game, another likely imp pickup.
With three boards to play, the Polish pair could feel comfortable that they picked up maybe two dozen imps, but not nearly enough to get back into contention. A psych under those conditions, or a wild slam shot, or a tame stay out of what looks like a game, are all possibilities for trying to create a swing. I was disappointed that the pscyh didn't get exposed. It's also strategically curious that the Polish pair at the other table, who had seen NO EVIDENCE of any imp pickup stayed out of the laydown 6S on that hand. Maybe because they thought they were so far behind, no need to bid other than normally.
As for how to handle this 1S vulnerable pscyh. I have to agree with Misho, that a 2H overcall is too much of an underbid. His solution of pass works well, if the bidding goes something, back to diamonds (as he surely expects) and further additions not needed. However if the bidding goes....
(1D)-P-(1S!)-P
(1N)-P-(Pass)-?
Now 2H is not so clear. The bid I like here, in the balance seat over 1N is 2NT. Partner will play me for a two suiter, probably clubs and hearts. He will, undoubtedly bid 3C. Now, I will bid 3H. This resolves the spade/heart two suiter IMHO.
Free's solution of bidding 2D to show both majors has merit if you play that low level cue-bid as michaels on this auction.
