Hi,

I have recently started playing WJ2005 and was wondering about the best way to handle interference after a 1♣ opening.

Suppose the auction starts:
1♣ - (2♦) - ?

Should you respond initially as if you are facing a weak NT opening, with 2M being non-forcing and Lebensohl, and the cue bid asking for a major, or would something like transfer responses work better?

If the auction started:
1♣ - (2♦) - P - P
?

what is the best use of bids here?
Double is presumably takeout, but can opener reopen with a maximum weak NT and a doubleton, or should you always pass with this hand to make sure that partner knows you have at least the middle strength hand when you reopen?

What is the best use of the cue bid in this sequence?

Thanks for any help or opinions,

Toby.

This is hard, which is probably why no one responded yet ;)

Pass with a weak NT type and some "middle" hands also.
You can double with things like 4315 and middle strength, or if the suit is a good 6-card you can bid 3♣ with middle strength.
Double is basically take out, 2NT is with stoppers. Rest is natural.

Cuebid: 2-suited strong
Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do!
