The technical explanation is that GIB blew a circuit board and made a random return at trick 2.

I assume that the 4 was led and declarer played the 2? GIB probably knows you are only getting 3 diamonds max and is looking to set up 2 heart tricks.

North has no entries or likely tricks after winning Q. Trying to set up 2 hearts probably sets up (at least) 2 hearts for declarer and does nothing about setting up diamond tricks

Maybe GIB doesn't know who has A? Most beginners would know who had A but maybe not GIB. If so, this would be an even worse bug.
