Removed from BBO, not just table Directors don't know how to remove a player

Yes, I've noticed this. When I am subbed by a TempBot, I have to log in again, losing any chat. Can this be fixed?

I think you've got this backwards. The directors replace you with a sub because you got disconnected, they don't usually (and most can't -- only yellows have this privilege) kick you out of BBO.

When you get booted back to the login screen you can't tell whether a yellow booted you or it's because of a problem with the connection. But usually it's the latter.

Nope, it's likely still the same bug that has been unresolved since last time: https://www.bridgeba...ooted-from-bbo/

Players generally call the TD when they've been waiting a while for the player to play, and they don't respond to chat. The reason they're not playing is that they got disconnected. The TD is also notified automatically if BBO disconnects a player because it detects a connection failure; the other players see "(Reserved)" after the name and it's on a red background.

There is a problem where disconnected players don't always get sent back to the login screen, so they don't realize they've been disconnected. From their perspective, the other players are the slowpokes. It's not clear how this happens, since both the server and client send heartbeats, and should notice when they don't receive the expected messages.

When I'm playing with a friend I send them a text message letting them know they're disconnected in case they can't tell.

Glad to see that you finally acknowledge this, which I have frequently pointed out as evidence that the heartbeat you claim exists is not effective.

This has got nothing to do with being slow - no problems with the play, no comments or complaints. It's typically as a sub, and while we know we can be unceremoniously removed from the table when the original player returns, that's not the same as being removed from BBO.

Some directors can manage this just fine - we get placed back in the lobby, with our chat & play history still intact - so we can return to a conversation we were having before we briefly sub at a table.

Others though, we're completely removed from BBO - logged-out.

It's got nothing to do with slow play, rudeness, etc, just a sub no-longer being required, but removed from BBO, not just the respective tourney. It shouldn't happen, and directors should be taught how to remove players properly - from a tourney, not from BBO - because otherwise they will find it more difficult to get subs.

Well, I take back what I said earlier.

A few nights ago my partner got disconnected while we were playing a speedball. She texted me to tell me that she had a power outage. I finished the hand with a sub, but I didn't want to play the rest of the tourney that way (I think it was board 2 or 3), so I called the TD and said I wanted to withdraw. When they replaced me with a sub, I was thrown back to the login screen, not just to the lobby.

I'll find out from TPTB whether this is how things are supposed to work.

I'm told that this was a change made early in the pandemic, when we had a large influx of new users. When users who were unresponsive were booted from the tourney, they didn't know how to get reseated. So we changed it to log them out, then when they log back in they will be reseated automatically.

It was done as a quick fix, so it doesn't distinguish between different reasons for booting the player from the tourney.

We'll probably improve or revert it at some time, don't know when.
