2 followed by 3, fold my cards and put them in my pocket.

I already know the hand's a potential misfit, so I'll downgrade with a void in partners suit. Double and follow it up with a bid over partner's anticipated 2 rebid.

Fold my cards and put them in my pocket, then bid 2 followed by 3

X was my call at the table (evaluated my hand as not good enough for 2 bid), planning to: Pass 2, show if partner rebids his suit or compete in if opponents are insisting on

Even though it's a potential misfit, 2 followed by 3 if partner rebids 2 shows exactly this hand in my system. 2 is a free bid showing an 8-11 count. 3 says 'my s are better than your s: stop.' [Occasionally partner has the cards to bid on]

Double is confusing as partner's going to take you (most of the time) for a suit, and if he then bids 2 and you follow with 3 that, in my system, would be seen as a forward move and forcing.

You have a good suit, and temporising with a Dbl. instead of bidding s immediately is suggesting a different hand than the one you have.

Partner doesn’t always rebid 2H but sometimes 3 or 4...and he would be disappointed I guess.
It is generally agreed that after an overcall, 2x is not GF (I guess you play 2/1 but it is for unobstructed auctions). So the hand is strong enough under this considerations / agreement.

2D, 3D and then 4D. Double has too much potential to get messy as partner, not unreasonably, will play me to have better hearts than 3 low.

3d if available as a preempt. We really do not want opener to be rebidding spades w/o some really good ones and this is the fastest way to convince them to leave us alone in diamonds. The 3 quick club losers and void opposite spade opening downgrade the offensive potential of this hand considerably. 3d still leaves us well placed for 3n as well as multiple dia contracts and, who knows, maybe opener will rebid hearts (hopefully with at least 5) and we will happily play in our heart game which would otherwise be difficult to diagnose.

If 3d is some sort of systemic bid I would lean toward neg x and not be shocked if things did not go well but consider a 2d bid as a dangerous overbid with those 3 small clubs.

2/1 is what we were playing and 2D is not GF but still not good enough for it I think (but not sure so that's why I posted :)

I also think that partner could show a better than a minimum hand (invitational+) with 3C.

This being said, my partner's rebid was 4H :) now what?

it looks like you play negative free bids and that wasn't the case for me and my partner ...

If I double and partner bids 4H, you await the opening lead before putting down the dummy.

I would bid 2D, regardless if I play NFB or not.
What does a forcing free bid promise? 5+ cards in a suit, 10+HCP.
It does not force to game. It may not even promise another bid.
... And I have a simple rebid (3D), I even have defensive.
The truth is, most hands, that would bid a NFB, would also bid the same
way not playing NFB.
With kind regards
Uwe Gebhardt (P_Marlowe)
