i thought 3H denied d control for 3NT. Should I bid 4C?

With a human partner you did fine.
This auction east needs a real stopper to bid 3N not a likely stopper or in Gibs case on these type of auctions an imaginary stopper.
If you are bidding 3N on this hand you will require a 4-4 ♦ split by opponents and to pick up Q♣ . This assumes you have 2♦ which isn't even given. I don't know the odds but can't be great.
East must bid 4♥ or 4/5♣ not 3NT

What was 3D over 3C defined as? Sometimes in 4th suit auctions, a repeat of the 4th suit is played as repeating the stopper ask.

Would love to know.
I rebid H instead of 4C since moron often has even AQx or AKx in d in same bidding.
