Hi All,

Following a 1NT opening (strong) has anyone had any experience of playing:

2 as 4+ hearts
2 as 4+ spades ?

Would like to hear what responses you could do for this, and what does that mean for the rest of the structure over the 1NT opening?

Thanks in advance :D

Asptro responses to a "quasi-balanced" 1N opening was one of my suggestions in this thread.

I saw something like this that appears to work well.

2C* forces 2D to sign off in D/H/S contracts.

2D* is invite+ with 4+ Hs.

2H* is invite+ with 4+ Ss.

Opener accepts the 2 level transfer with a non max. hand.

Opener bids 2N with a max. and 2 cards in the transferred suit.

Opener bids 3* with a max. and 3 cards in the transferred suit.

When opener would pass an invite in normal methods, this one allows you to stop in 2M.

Holding both majors, responder bids 2C* and over the forced 2D* bid now bids 2N*(4-4Ms invite) or 3N*(4-4Ms)GF

A friend of mine plays this. They use:

1NT---
2C = 0+ hcp, 4+H
2D = 0+ hcp, 4+S
2H = INV+ with 5+ minor, usually no major.
2S = Balanced INV or weak/GF+ with 5-5 minors
2NT = INV with 4-4 minors
3m = Preemptive/to play (they play a weak NT)
3M = GF with 4M, choice of games between 3NT or 4M.
3NT = To play
4M = To play

Over 1NT-2m they play:

1NT-2m;
Step 1 = Bad fit. Min with 2-3 or max with 2.
Step 2 = Good fit. Min with 4 or max with 3-4(5).

Then:

1NT-2m; Step response-
2M = To play
2S = INV with at least 4-4 majors (spades may be longer)
2NT = INV with 4 or 5 card major.
3C = GF with 4M and a 5+ minor. 3D asks for minor.
3D = GF with 5+ major.
3M = INV with 5 or 6 card major.
3oM = Natural GF, usually 4-4 after a transfer to hearts.
3NT = Choice of games with 5M.
4new = GF 5-5.
4M = To play.
