Robot tourney (IMPs) 4S would be a brilliant bid if it promised club support, but clearly East didn't take it that way.

Bid is bizarre. West already showed 5 with 1 bid. Partner is 3rd seat opening if East can't bid 4 West shouldn't.

I wonder what doubling 3 or bidding 4 means in Gibberish. You could make an argument that showing 7 decent clubs in a 7-4-1-1 hand is a desirable goal.

I don't know if I could say several, but at least a few times GIB has left me in a 5-1 fit. I happened to have 6 spades on this hand but my bid didn't promise it. How about that 3H call along the way.

Surely the real problem here is that 3H call? I see some things to admire in his 4S which does indeed make. He knows about the clubs fit, your spades are likely to be 6 cards after all and after that 2D opening he knows you have no diamonds and that the missing trump honours are going to be in East.

More in the same vein. Yesterday GIB insisted on playing in hearts with its 2-card support instead of a less disaster prone 64 fit in clubs.

5C makes unless the bad guys find their heart ruff. 5H didn't score well :-)
