Bid is bizarre. West already showed 5♠ with 1♠ bid. Partner is 3rd seat opening if East can't bid 4♠ West shouldn't.

I wonder what doubling 3♣ or bidding 4♣ means in Gibberish. You could make an argument that showing 7 decent clubs in a 7-4-1-1 hand is a desirable goal.

I don't know if I could say several, but at least a few times GIB has left me in a 5-1 fit. I happened to have 6 spades on this hand but my bid didn't promise it. How about that 3H call along the way.

Surely the real problem here is that 3H call? I see some things to admire in his 4S which does indeed make. He knows about the clubs fit, your spades are likely to be 6 cards after all and after that 2D opening he knows you have no diamonds and that the missing trump honours are going to be in East.
